Heat guard Josh Richardson ejected for throwing shoe into crowd
Miami guard Josh Richardson was ejected from the Heat’s 113-97 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night. Though it wasn’t a battle with another player that forced the ejection — it was a battle with his own shoe.
Midway through the fourth quarter at American Airlines Arena in Miami, Richardson lost his shoe attempting to throw down a dunk. Richardson missed and thought he was fouled on the play, but didn’t get the call.
With one shoe on, Richardson picked up a personal foul while guarding LeBron James on the very next possession. He then walked to the sideline, attempting to untie his shoe and put it back on. When he couldn’t get the laces untied, his frustration from the previous two drives boiled over.
Richardson tossed the shoe over his head into the crowd behind the bench. Quickly, he was assessed a technical foul and ejected from the game.

Richardson left the game with 17 points and six rebounds in 25 minutes. So far this season, the 25-year-old is averaging 20.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest.
Richardson’s odd ejection, though, wasn’t the biggest story of the night out of Miami. James erupted for a season-high 51 points in the Lakers’ win after shooting 19-of-31 from the field, marking the 12th 50-point game of his career.
