Haunted house shooter thought someone had cut in line, Michigan police say
A man is dead and another is on the run after a line dispute at a haunted house early Sunday in Michigan, police say.
The victim, 29, and his girlfriend were in line at Erebus Haunted Attraction, a haunted house in Pontiac, around 12:30 a.m., when another man accused them of cutting in line, the Oakland County Sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The issue sparked an argument that led to the shooting a few minutes later, police said.
The victim told his girlfriend that he was going to go to his car. The suspect then went to the parking lot separately, according to police.
That’s when witnesses said they heard several gunshots, officials said. Someone called 911 and told police that a man was lying on the concrete in the parking lot.
The victim was shot in the neck, chest and side, police said. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told police that they saw a blue sedan speed away from the parking lot.
Police are searching for the suspect, who they describe as being about 6 feet tall and wearing an orange hoodie and jeans. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) SPEAK-UP, police said.
Erebus Haunted Attraction is described on its website as a “four-story haunted house tower of terror” in Pontiac, just north of Detroit. It opened for the season on Friday.
Saturday evening, one person was wounded and five juveniles were arrested after gunfire erupted at a haunted house in China Grove, N.C., The Charlotte Observer reported.
Police said fights broke out among several large and small groups of people during which shots were fired, according to the Observer.
At first, the person who was shot didn’t realize he’d been injured but ultimately went to a local hospital to get treatment for a gunshot wound to the foot, the Observer reported.
He’s since been released.
