Harry Kane says Tottenham can achieve “something special” this season after collecting their third win of the campaign at Burnley.
Kane’s flicked header was turned home by Son Heung-min late in the day to earn Spurs all three points, leaving them fifth in the Premier League table after six games.
With last season’s top four of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all looking slightly out of kilter so far, there is the growing possibility of a surprise title challenge from a Spurs side who finished sixth last term.
“I think we are at a stage where we have been so close for so many years, a lot of us have been together for four or five years,” Kane told Sky Sports. “The additions this year have been great and we are all getting more experienced. We know with the team we have got and the players we have got we can do something special.”
However Kane was reluctant to declare Tottenham’s title ambitions just yet.
“It's still early on. We need to take each game as it comes. I know it's a cliche. We still have a lot to learn and build on but I think nights like this will give us a lot of confidence.”
Kane’s relationship with Son has been one of the features of the early season, with the duo combining for a total of 29 goals now in Premier League history, behind only Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba (36 goals) in the list of most productive partnerships.
“Me and Sonny have had a nice little partnership going recently and hopefully it continues,” said Kane. “I think having more understanding when I'm dropping deep for him to run in behind [is the difference]. It is just confidence as well. Even today it was not an amazing assist but it fell well for Sonny.”
