The New York Yankees, losers of five straight games entering Monday, are hoping to have newcomer J.A. Happ back on the mound later this week after his recent bout with hand, foot and mouth disease.

Manager Aaron Boone said the left-hander, who made one start for New York before going on the 10-day disabled list with the illness, could start on Thursday against the Texas Rangers at Yankee Stadium "if all goes well."

Boone said before Monday's game in Chicago against the White Sox that Happ is "out of the woods, virus-wise," and is no longer contagious.

The Yankees acquired Happ from the Toronto Blue Jays on July 26, five days before the MLB non-waiver trading deadline, in exchange for third baseman Brandon Drury and minor league outfielder Billy McKinney.

For the season, Happ is 11-6 with a 4.05 ERA. In his one start for New York, he pitched six innings against the Royals at Yankee Stadium on July 29, allowing one run on three hits.
