Hamstring injury sidelines Mets' Cabrera

New York Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was held out of the lineup Wednesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals because of discomfort in his right hamstring, according to a report from the New York Daily News.

Cabrera, 32, has been a key factor in the Mets' hot start this season. He is hitting .349 (29-for-83) with four home runs and 12 RBIs in 21 games. He leads the team with eight doubles and a .590 slugging percentage.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters he kept Cabrera out of the lineup as a precaution.

"His hammy was barking (Tuesday), we decided to get him out of there," Callaway said, according to the Daily News. "I am sure you guys could see he wasn't moving great in the game. We were kind of monitoring him and we ran for him late."

Cabrera dealt with a nagging injury to the same hamstring last season. He also battled a lower-back injury but managed to play in 135 games, hitting .280 with 14 home runs and 59 RBIs.
