Hamilton Southeastern graduate Sam Bachman gets called up to majors by Los Angeles Angels

Sam Bachman, a Southeastern Hamilton graduate, is getting called up to the major leagues.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels announced Bachman would be promoted to the big leagues from Double-A Rocket City. The right-handed pitcher from Fishers will be in the bullpen in time for Friday's series opener against the Miami Marlins.

Bachman was selected ninth overall by the Angels in the 2021 MLB Draft and is ranked as the club's No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline. He has made six starts in the minor leagues this season and 23 overall.

This year, Bachman posted a 5.81 ERA with 29 strikeouts and 20 walks in 26 1/3 innings.

According to a release from the Angels, Bachman has had a difficult time adjusting to the new pre-tacked balls at Double-A.

"But Bachman, 23, brings a much-needed power arm in relief, as his fastball can touch 100 mph and he possesses a swing-and-miss slider," the release noted.

Before being drafted, Bachman played at Miami University (Ohio).
