Hamilcar Rashed Jr. sits alone atop the leaderboard.
No one in Oregon State history had recorded more than 12 sacks in a single season, until now. Rashed Jr. has 14 sacks this season with two games remaining.
The junior outside linebacker has been a breakout star for the Oregon State defense, a unit expected to be awful this season. The outstanding pass rusher has been a driving force for the upward trajectory that side of the ball has undergone this season.
On the last play of the first half against Arizona State, Rashed Jr. came around the edge to get his record-setting thirteenth sack of the season. He celebrated with a little dance.
He previously shared the record with Maurice Porter (1982) and Victor Butler (2008) who both had 12 sacks in their career seasons. Butler gave his best wishes for Rashed Jr. to break his record earlier this season.
However, the sack record wasn't the only one broken by Rashed Jr. on Saturday. He also set a single-season school record with 22.5 tackles-for-loss. He leads the country in both sacks and tackles-for-loss.
But Rashed Jr is not finished yet. The Beavers' main goal of going bowling is one win away, and Rashed Jr won't stop grinding until he accomplishes that goal.
It feels good but I got more work to do. I still got goals, and I still haven't reached them yet, so we're going to keep fighting.
You can watch his full reaction to the record in the video above.
Additionally, Nigel Burton discussed the accomplishment on this week's Talkin' Beavers podcast.
