Hamburg defeats Faifield in high school football behind another big game from Tyler Shuey
Sep. 9—Tyler Shuey threw for 347 yards and four touchdowns to lead Hamburg to a 47-28 win over Fairfield in a non-league football game Friday at Hawk Hill.
Shuey completed 17-of-21 passes in surpassing the 300-yard mark for the third straight week.
Mason Semmel had five catches for 119 yards and three touchdowns and Daniel Brady had three catches for 109 yards and a TD for the Hawks (3-0).
Hamburg put it away by scoring five straight touchdowns after Fairfield had tied it at 14-14.
Brady caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from Shuey with 6:58 left in the first half to give the Hawks the lead for good at 21-14. Semmel then caught a 29-yard pass from Shuey on the final play of the first half to make it 28-14.
In the third quarter, Ty Werley returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown, Shuey threw an 18-yard TD pass to Semmel and Blaise Ernst scored on a 15-yard run to put Hamburg up 42-14 with 1:13 left in the third quarter.
The Hawks had taken a 14-0 lead in the game's first 3:36.
Ernst scored on a 2-yard run with 10:31 left in the opening quarter, then Shuey connected on a 5-yard TD pass to Semmel with 8:24 left.
The Knights (0-3) got right back in it as Wyatt Kuhn threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Camden Bryant, then a 12-yard TD pass to Stephens Higgs with 11:37 left in the first half.
Shuey, a junior, completed 10-of-14 passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-19 win over Halifax in Week 1. He completed 15-of-34 passes for 305 yards and three TDs in 34-27 win over Warrior Run in Week 2.
For the season, he has thrown 11 touchdown passes with just one interception.
Hamburg is 3-0 for the third straight season. Last season, the Hawks opened 5-0.
Werley finished with four catches for 72 yards and also had two interceptions.
