H.S. Roundup: Berne Union baseball tops Irish to remain unbeaten in MSL

BASEBALL

Berne Union 7, Fisher Catholic 3: The Rockets jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first three innings in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over rival Fisher Catholic to remain unbeaten in the league.

Dylan Winkler went the distance, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking three.

The Rockets (10-1-1, 9-0) finished with 11 hits. Tylor Tipple went 2-for-4, Russ Blank was 2-for-3 and Winkler went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Sammy Amnah, Hudson Gerken, William Bolton, Lance Burroughs and Luke Shafer all finished with one hit.

Liberty Union 2, Circleville 1: After suffering their first loss of the season, the Lions were able to get back into the winning column thanks to an outstanding pitching performance from senior Jacob Miller, who gave up one hit and struck out 17.

Jon Wheeler had two hits to lead the way for the Lions, who improved to 15-1 overall and 10-1 in the Mid-State League-Buckeye Division.

Amanda-Clearcreek 4, Bloom-Carroll 3: The Aces broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning when Grant Guiler doubled home a run in a Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the Bulldogs.

Trenton Hedges picked up the win as he went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out seven. Peyton Cassley recorded the last six outs to earn the save.

Landon Mills and Hedges each collected two hits to lead the Aces. Peyton Cassley, Blayne Barker, Hunter Matheny, and Cade Young all had one hit.

Logan Moore went the distance for the Bulldogs, and he allowed nine hits and four runs. Nic Lund led the Bulldogs with three hits.

Fairfield Christian Academy 8, Grove City Christian 1: The Knights scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back in their Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Eagles.

Gabe Linn went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Manny Schultz had two hits and Gunner Hankison had a hit and two RBI for the Knights. Linn picked up the win as he pitched five innings, giving up three hits and didn’t allow a run as he struck out seven.

Logan Elm 8, Fairfield Union 7: The Falcons fell short in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division loss to the Braves.

Connor Schorr started on the mound and went four innings Josh Bell pitched two innings in relief.

Offensively, the Falcons were led by Owen Morgan, who had two hits, and six other Falcons had hits, including Kyle Wolfe’s bases-clearing double in the seventh inning.

SOFTBALL

Bloom-Carroll 3, Amanda-Clearcreek 0: Lexi Paulsen gave up three hits and struck out 17 to help lead the Bulldogs to a Mid-State League win over the Aces.

Alexa Luke went 3-for-3 and Victoria Cline went 1-for-2 for the Bulldogs, who improved to 10-1 in the conference.

Fairfield Christian Academy 12, Grove City Christian 1: Addison Stem tossed a no-hitter and finished with 13 strikeouts to help lead the Knights to a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win over the Eagles.

Emma Smeltzer went 5-for-5 and Madison Clauss went 4-for-5, while Stem and Erika Anderson add two hits apiece to help improve the Knights record to 8-4 on the season.

Berne Union 12, Fisher Catholic 2: The Rockets improved to 8-1 in the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division after their win over the Irish.

Abbi Hintz went the distance, giving up two earned runs, striking out six and walking three.

Baylee Mirgon hit a home run and had four RBI and scored three runs. Hintz was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, four RBI and three runs. Hannah Brown and Josilyn Hedges had two hits each, while Cloee Walton and Madyson Redinger finished with one hit and one RBI each.
