H.S. boys' soccer: No. 6 Stonington boys hand No. 10 Bacon first loss

Sep. 22—STONINGTON — Sam Montalto scored a pair of goals in the second half as Stonington defeated Bacon Academy 3-0 on Tuesday night in a matchup of two schools ranked in the Class M-S state boys' soccer poll.

Stonington is ranked sixth and Bacon 10th.

After Dom Morrone had given the Bears (4-1) a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute (Drew Johnson assisted), Montalto tapped in a cross from Ryan Turner in the 68th minute to make it 2-0 and then took a pass from Johnson and scored in a breakway four minutes later.

Bacon suffered its first loss and fell to 3-1.

In other matches:

— Daimon Pollard snapped a 1-1 tie in the 68th minute as top-ranked Ledyard edged Fitch 2-1. Nick Washington, who assisted on Pollard's game-winner, also scored for the Colonels (5-0). Diego Martinez scored for the Falcons (3-2).

— Riley Walsh scored in overtime to lift East Lyme to a 1-0 win over Waterford. Walsh scored in the 86th minute with Blake Biggs assisting. Connor Piper made five saves for East Lyme (4-2), which outshot Waterford 20-5. Tim Silva made 12 saves for Waterford (1-3).

— Flavio Alvarado had a goal and an assist as New London defeated Plainfield 3-1. Jose Hernandez and Nicholas Churis also scored for the Whalers (3-1).

— Louis Hawkins had a goal and three assists as NFA beat Windham 4-2. Marc Josaphat scored twice and Jeff Delphin had a goal for the Wildcats (3-2).

— Ethan Lackner scored in the 93rd minute as Killingly beat Wheeler 2-1 in overtime. Jonny Anderson had given Wheeler (2-2) a 1-0 halftime lead with his goal that was assisted by Matt Pierce.

— Colby Cowan scored three goals as Montville defeated Tourtellotte, 6-0. Aaron Muncaster scored twice for the Indians (2-1).

— Grasso Tech tied Windham Tech, 1-1. Fabricio Gonzalez scored the goal for Grasso Tech, assisted by Meynor Sanchez.
