GV wins regular-season finale, SJ's Cevera breaks school mark

ORWELL — Grand Valley downed Saint John 52-39 in girls basketball action on Wednesday night at GVHS.

The Heralds finished

the regular season at 12-10, while the Mustangs closed the at 16-6 overall.

In the loss, Saint John senior Alyssa Cevera broke a school record.

Three players reached double digits for GV, led by Katelyn Hart with 17 points. She converted five 3-pointers. Dixie Miller and Morgan Crawford added 12 points each.

The game was close throughout, before GV outscored the visitors 19-7 in the final quarter.

After a pair of losses, the Mustangs finished the regular season with two straight wins.

"We're excited to be playing good basketball at the end of the year and look forward to the opportunity to win a game at home and go to districts for the first time in almost 10 years," GV coach Zach Sirrine said.

Saint John with 20 points, while Alyssa Cevera

added 10.

Cevera became Saint John's all-time career leading scorer in girls basketball.

She broke Kelly Tinney's mark of 1,053.

"I'm very blessed to become the leading scorer and thankful every time I can step on the basketball court to play," Cevera said.

Heralds coach Nick Iarocci is proud of Cevera's accomplishment.

"It's been an absolute

pleasure to coach Lys," he Iarocci said. "She's one of the most competitive players

I've ever coach. She never complains and just works hard all the time."

Both teams will

prepare for postseason tournament games.

Saint John travels to Jackson-Milton for a Division IV first-round contest at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.
