Guy Fieri will cook an 'inspiration dinner' for Kevin Durant to stay with Warriors

Guy Fieri, according to who you talk to, has been credited with bringing Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors when he texted Durant’s agent prior to the 2016 offseason that it would be awesome if KD came to the Bay Area.

Accurate or not, Fieri now holds some (light) weight regarding Durant’s next free-agent decision, which could be shaping up to be a doozy with rumors swirling around the New York Knicks as a potential destination.

In an interview with GQ Magazine on Friday in which the Bay Area celebrity chef discussed his fandom of the Warriors, Fieri jokingly asked for Durant to call him.

“Tell me what you need,” Fieri said. “If there is a such thing as an inspiration dinner that I need to cook to bring all the dignitaries together—all the players, his team, his mom, you name it—well, consider that meal cooked.”

Fieri added: “You tell me what I can do. Tell me how I need to flex my food muscles, and I'll make it happen.”

The chef also debunked the rumor that he was singlehandedly responsible for bringing Durant to the bay.

“I can't even entertain the conversation—it’s ridiculous,” he said. “Look, we love KD. Like, everybody does! I don't know how that manifested itself in this story, and quite frankly, I think I’ve lost track of what the reality of the story is.”

But at the end of the day, he wants the star to remain with the Warriors.

“I think anybody in the Bay Area would give whatever they can give to keep him,” Fieri said. “And he's such a nice guy. It's more than just a player—it's the character, the energy, the person he is. He's phenomenal.”

The celebrity chef has been a staple at Oracle Arena for many years, often sitting courtside next to East Bay rapper E-40.

Fieri’s lengthy Q&A with the magazine is worth the read. He also tells a story of Stephen Curry meeting Fieri’s nephew, reminisces on a few Warriors of the past and talks about his eating strategy at Oracle Arena (spoiler: he doesn’t eat at games).

But let’s not bury the lede here: If Fieri shooting his shot in 2016 worked out to bring Durant to the Bay Area, perhaps cooking a nice meal for KD and his crew might just do the trick again.
