Anna Howells, Spurs XY
Not so long ago it felt like we were on top of the world. Not just because we were literally sitting on top of the league table, but we were playing attractive football and it was a joy to go to games again. We had exciting new players and all the pain from last season seemed far away.
I guess it was all too good to be true.
I cannot even say we have woken up from a dream, because honestly it feels like this season has shifted into a nightmare.
We always knew our squad lacked the depth of quality and should anything happen to our key players we'd be in trouble. I just do not think anyone anticipated everything coming together all at once, bookings and injuries alike all creating the perfect storm.
It is time to face reality and a very harsh one at that: without the creativity of James Maddison and the centre-back partnership of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, we will not be able to produce much going forward and we will not be able to keep other teams out no matter how incredible Vicario plays.
I was so ready to put the last few seasons behind us and to enjoy the new era we have brought in, but at Wolverhampton we looked like an Antonio Conte side.
Now we will see what Ange Postecoglou teams are made from.
