Guardians' split squads have mixed results

Mar. 19—The Guardians put split squads on the diamond March 19 against the Brewers and Rockies with mixed results.

Against the Rockies, they plated three runs in the top of the ninth inning to force a 9-9 tie.

Those runs came on a three-run home run by Chase DeLauter, the top prospect's fourth round-tripper of the spring, with Will Brennan and Micah Pries on base.

DeLauter finished 3-for-4 overall with three runs scored, and Dom Nunez went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBI.

The Guardians' split squad against the Brewers fell, 8-5.

Ramon Laureano had two doubles, a run and an RBI, and Jose Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a double, run and RBI.

The pitching highlight for either split squad was Hunter Gaddis against the Brewers. He tossed two perfect innings of relief, striking out four.

The Guardians are off March 20 and return to action March 21 against the Royals at 4:05 p.m.
