Gritty K-State Wildcats head to Big Apple (and Blair channels Ol’ Blue Eyes): a podcast

Kansas State plays in Manhattan, Kan., affectionately known locally as the “Little Apple.” This week, the Wildcats look to continue their winning ways in the NCAA Tournament in the Big Apple.

The Sweet 16 date at Madison Square Garden in New York against Michigan State awaits a Kansas State team that defeated Kentucky on Sunday in Greensboro, N.C. The Wildcats got it done behind the remarkable performance of point guard Markquis Nowell. Adding to the purple vibe this week: Nowell and three of his teammates are New York natives. They’re going home.

On today’s episode of The Star’s SportsBeat KC podcast, beat writer Kellis Robinett discusses how K-State broke open a close game vs. Kentucky with a final flurry. The purple Wildcats picked up their most important win of the season and they did it as a betting underdog, overcoming Oscar Tshiebwe and the blue Wildcats.

After a break, you’ll hear a conversation with K-State athletic director Gene Taylor, which was recorded before the Kentucky game. He discusses the accomplishments of first-year head coach Jerome Tang and addresses the likelihood of a contract extension.
