Gregg Popovich unaware of Lakers' breakout rookie Andre Ingram
On Tuesday, Los Angeles Lakers guard Andre Ingram blew up from a nice little story to perhaps the biggest headline in the NBA on the league’s penultimate night of the regular season.
Ingram, 32, got called up on Monday from the Lakers’ G League affiliate for his first NBA action as the oldest American rookie in the league in more than 50 years.
On Tuesday, he caught fire, exceeding all reasonable expectations to fill up the box score with 19 points, three rebounds, three blocks, an assist and a steal while hitting 4-of-5 3-pointers off the bench, perhaps earning a long-term NBA contract in the process.
He was the buzz of the NBA. Everybody was talking about Ingram.
Everybody except San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, apparently.

“I don’t read too much about sports,” Popovich told San Antonio Express-News reporter Jabari Young on Wednesday when asked about Ingram. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. I did read Maureen Dowd today, though. It was very interesting.”
That’s, umm … very Pop. Popovich went on to talk about the sad news of the last male northern white rhino on Earth dying. And he’s right. That is a much more important story than a basketball game.
