Grading the Ravens’ signing of DL Brent Urban

The Baltimore Ravens have been able to secure a lot of talent during the 2022 offseason. They’ve signed multiple quality free agents while also adding plenty of high-upside rookies in the draft. However one underrated move that the team made was the signing of defensive lineman Brent Urban.

Urban signed a one-year deal with Baltimore, returning to where his NFL career first began. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Ravens, and established himself as a good rotation player over his first four seasons in the league by putting up 52 tackles and 3.5 sacks as a member of the team.

After the 2018 season, Urban latched on with the Chicago Bears, and after that also spent time with the Tennessee Titans and most recently the Dallas Cowboys. He has a quick first step as well as powerful hands, and should be able to provide Baltimore with a solid run stuffer who has the ability to generate pressure from the interior. Urban seems to have gotten better since his departure from the Ravens, and his added experience will certainly be a benefit for the organization moving forward.

Urban’s addition means that Baltimore’s defensive line has a plethora of depth that currently includes Calais Campbell, Michael Pierce, Justin Madubuike, Travis Jones, Derek Wolfe and others. He should be able to play a big role for the Ravens right away, and was a very solid signing for a team that has reshaped their defensive line for the 2022 season.
