GQ’s Modern Lovers issue features Russell Wilson and Ciara, Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Love can come in many shapes and forms, and it can be found anywhere, in any single person.

That’s the message GQ strives to convey in its new Modern Lovers issue, which features some of the Pacific Northwest’s star athletes.

On the cover of the GQ issue that will release this March will be three couples including Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and his wife, pop star Ciara, as well as four-time WNBA champion Sue Bird and USWNT legend Megan Rapinoe. Tennis star Naomi Osaka and Grammy-nominated rapper Cordae also appear in the issue.

This issue dives into the love stories behind these star-studded couples. Wilson is one of the NFL’s premier quarterbacks. He’s a Super Bowl champion, eight-time Pro Bowler, the league’s winningest quarterback in a player’s first nine seasons and the 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year. As for Ciara, she’s a singer, songwriter, dancer, model and actress.

Together, the duo are team owners of the Seattle Sounders, investors in the Portland Diamond Project and owners of their own charter school, the Why Not You Academy.

The power couple can do it all in what Wilson calls “the discipline of marriage.” GQ will touch on the union between Mr. & Mrs. Wilson and what got the two where they are today.

As for Rapinoe & Bird, the soccer star and All-American point guard aren’t afraid to speak their minds. The duo has been active in conversations regarding Black Lives Matter, equal pay in sports, protecting voting rights, and recently, Bird rejoiced in Rev. Raphael Warnock’s victory over Atlanta Dream co-owner Kelly Loeffler in one of Georgia’s crucial runoff Senate races.

Together the two share something much deeper than two World Cup titles, four Seattle Storm championship rings and five total Olympic gold medals. They intensely love and respect one another.

The stories of Russell and Ciara, and Sue and Megan will be featured in the March 2021 issue of GQ. You can claim your copy by subscribing to the magazine.
