Gordon's career-high garners her MSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor

Dec. 30—Cumberland senior Kayla Gordon was named the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performances at the Trojan Classic this past week, announced by league officials Tuesday.

Gordon went off against Lawrence Tech for a career-high 36 points on 13-of-24 shooting in the game. This was her second 30-plus-point performance of the season as she scored 24 against Simmons College in the Rosa Stokes Classic.

She averaged 26 points in two games, also scoring 16 in a win over IU-Kokomo. She also averaged 6.5 rebounds and two assists while shooting 43.9% from the field.

This season she is averaging 15.2 points per game to lead the Phoenix and is third in the Mid-South Conference in points per game.

Gordon is the first Phoenix to earn MSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week this season and first since Tyra Johnson in January of 2022.
