2017 Gordon-Rushville Players to Watch
Big, strong, twice-named all-district. One of the best all-around players in Class C-1.
Leader in the line, expert video host.
Two-way starter, rising prospect.
Returning all-district receiver capable of the big play.
There’s something cooking at Gordon-Rushville where the Mustangs return nine starters on offense and eight on defense from a team that finished 4-5. Kevin Lindholm, a 2012 graduate of Chadron State College, enters his second year as the program’s head coach.
Senior running back Korby Campbell (6-3, 190) is a returning all-district player and leads a backfield that will also include fullbacks Tommy Bragg (5-7, 160) and Jarrett Pieper (5-7, 170), with junior Carson Hinn (5-11, 145) the returning starter at quarterback.
Senior Jared Nelson (6-1, 160) is an all-district wide receiver for the Mustangs and he returns with senior Morgan Hurlburt (5-7, 160) back at wingback.
Senior all-district senior Zane Hamilton (6-0, 175) will anchor a veteran offensive line that includes senior tackles Broc Black Calf (6-0, 165) and Cade Fischer (6-2, 220) and junior guard Damian Holeman (5-8, 185). Beyond being an outstanding lineman, Fisher has a future as the next voice-over talent for NFL Films, as witnessed by the video above.
Campbell, an end, and Hamilton, a tackle, lead the defensive line with Black Calf, Holeman and senior Trace Beguin (5-10, 165) also with starting experience in the D-line. Nelson, Hurlburt and Hinn return in the secondary with Bragg and Pieper at linebacker.
That’s a good senior class, so let’s say the Mustangs move to five wins and make a run at both the district title and a playoff berth.
