Good Morning, Illini Nation: Elite Eight odds and ends

Mar. 31—The 2023-24 Illinois basketball season ended Saturday in Boston in a 77-52 Connecticut win in the Elite Eight. Here's a new notes to round out the end of the Illini's road:

— Terrence Shannon Jr. was named to the East Regional All-Tournament team along with San Diego State's Jaedon LeDee and the UConn trio of Donovan Clingan, Cam Spencer and Stephon Castle. Clingan, obviously, was named Most Outstanding Player.

— Illinois finished the season with 29 wins, its most in a season since a program-record 37 in the 2004-05 season.

— Illinois is now 45-35 all time in the NCAA tournament. The Illini have never beaten a No. 1 seed, dropping to 0-6 all-time after Saturday's loss to the Huskies.

— Marcus Domask's 17 points were tops for Illinois and marked the fifth-year guard's 29th in double figures this season. Terrence Shannon Jr.'s streak of 41 consecutive double-digit performance was snapped.

— With Saturday's 25-point win, UConn set a record with its 10th straight double-digit NCAA tournament victory, breaking the previous mark of nine by Michigan State from 2000-01.

— UConn's defense held the high-powered Illinois offense to a season-low 52 points. The Illini's previous low was 64 (twice).

— UConn is 69-32 all time in the NCAA Championship.
