Greller on 13th hole: 'Just absolute chaos'
The 29-minute scene that unfolded on the 13th hole Sunday at Royal Birkdale played a pivotal role in deciding the outcome of The Open, and it's a scene that will be replayed for years to come. But what was it like inside the ropes with the claret jug hanging in the balance? "Just absolute chaos," said Jordan Spieth's caddie, Michael Greller. 'Resilient' Kuchar will 'keep moving forward'
Although Matt Kuchar was more than ready to move on from last week’s loss at The Open, on Wednesday at the RBC Canadian Open. there was no way to remain in the present. While the lion’s share of questions fixated on Jordan Spieth’s victory, Kuchar did his best to move on to this week’s event at Glen Abbey. “I think part of what makes us pros out here is the resiliency and [to] kind of keep plugging along,” said Kuchar, who briefly took a one-stroke lead on Sunday at Royal Birkdale when Spieth bogeyed the 13th hole. “When you get knocked down, you keep moving forward. Long Drive competitions are quite the event. The event is rather self-explanatory — extremely strong golfers gather together to see who can hit golf balls farther than anyone else in the world. Think of it as golf's Home Run Derby, an event meant to show off the strength of its competitors and their very specific ability outside of the larger sport. Long Drive competitions are also similar to the Home Run Derby in that they give athletes an opportunity to let loose. Whereas over-the-top celebrations are somewhat frowned upon at Augusta National, Tuesday night at the Mile High Showdown, they were all but encouraged. And no one had better celebrations on Tuesday than eventual champion Maurice Allen.
