Golf cart driver overturns on Smith Road; Mifflinburg man hurt

Jan. 24—LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP — A Mifflinburg man suffered minor injuries when the golf cart he was driving toppled over on Smith Road in Limestone Township, according to state police in Milton.

State Trooper Matthew Lesher, of the Milton State Police Barracks, reported the incident occurred at 1:18 p.m. Sunday on Smith Road 315 feet south of Buzzard Lane. The driver was identified as Gary L. Smith, 66, of Mifflinburg.

Smith was traveling southbound on Smith Road in a 2023 HDK Plastic Factory Evolution golf cart when the battery system shut down and caused the brake system and controls to lock up. This caused the cart to travel in a southeast direction and overturn, police said.

The cart rolled twice before coming to a final rest off the eastbound shoulder of Smith Road, facing northbound, police said.

Smith sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Geisinger for treatment via William Cameron Engine Company EMS, police said.

The driver was cited with a traffic violation, police said.
