Golf betting: Rory McIlroy is getting the most bets to win the RBC Canadian Open

Can Rory McIlroy get his first win of 2022 this weekend?

McIlroy is the No. 3 favorite and the most-bet golfer ahead of the RBC Canadian Open. McIlroy is at +1000 to win in the first PGA Tour event in Canada since the COVID-19 pandemic and is getting 6.3% of bets at BetMGM. The bets on McIlroy make up nearly 12% of the handle — no other golfer is getting over 7% of the money to win.

The top two favorites for the event are major winners Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas. The Masters champion is at +800 to win the tournament while Thomas, the PGA Championship winner, is at +900 to win. Scheffler is getting just over 5% of bets to win the tournament while Thomas is at 4.3%. Both golfers are getting slightly over 5% of the money bet on the winner.

Not so coincidentally, Scheffler, Thomas, and McIlroy are the top three favorites to win next week’s U.S. Open at Brookline in Boston.

Cam Smith is the second-most bet golfer to win the RBC Canadian Open. He’s getting just over 6% of bets to win and his bets make up 6.8% of the money bet. The money bet on Smith is just ahead of the money bet on Tyrrell Hatton. The Englishman is getting 4% of bets but those wagers make up 6.7% of the handle.

In addition to being the favorite to win, Scheffler is the favorite to finish in the top five and the top 10. Scheffler is at +150 to finish in the top five and -135 to score a top 10. Thomas is at +165 for a top five and -125 for a top 10 while McIlroy is at +170 to finish in the top five and at -110 to finish in the top 10 along with Smith.

Smith is a massive favorite to be the top Australian in the field. He’s at -500 to be the best of the five golfers from Australia ahead of Cameron Percy at +700. Corey Conners is paired with Thomas and Scheffler for the first two rounds and he’s at +190 to be the top Canadian ahead of Adam Hadwin at +350 and Mackenzie Hughes at +600.

While Hatton is getting a lot of bets, he’s not the favorite to be the top golfer from England. Matt Fitzpatrick is at +1800 to win the tournament and at +175 to be the No. 1 golfer from his home country. Hatton is at +2800 to win and +275 to be the top English golfer.
