Golf betting: Jason Day and Justin Rose among preferred Pebble Beach betting choices

Four golfers are combining for nearly 40% of the handle wagered at BetMGM on the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am .

Maverick McNealy, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose are bettors’ preferred picks for the tournament beginning Thursday in Monterrey, California. McNealy (+2200 to win) is getting 11% of the money on 7.2% of bets. Day, fresh off a strong performance at Torrey Pines at the Farmers Insurance Open, is getting the same percentage of bets and 9.4% of the handle at +2000.

Day tied Jon Rahm and Cameron Triangle (+2500 at Pebble Beach) for third at the tournament and missed the playoff by one stroke.

Spieth is also at +2000. He’s getting 7% of bets and 8.1% of the handle. Rose (+2500) is getting 5.2% of bets but 9.5% of the handle. Spieth missed the cut at the Farmers while Rose tied for sixth and finished two shots back of the playoff for the win.

The Pebble Beach field is weakened considerably by the Saudi International Asian Tour event. The appearance fees paid out by the event have attracted 21 of the world’s top 50 players including Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Tony Finau, and Cam Smith.

Patrick Cantlay (+650) is the favorite at Pebble Beach followed by Daniel Berger (+1100). The two Ryder Cup participants are far and away the top players on the board. Day and Spieth are tied for the No. 3 favorite and McNealy is at No. 5. Cantlay is getting 3.3% of bets and 5.4% of the handle while Berger is getting 3.2% of bets and the same percentage of money. Berger tied for 20th at Torrey Pines.

The No. 3 favorite entering the week was Will Zalatoris after he lost to Luke List in a playoff at the Farmers. But Zalatoris had to withdraw from the tournament after testing positive for COVID-19.
