Going to a Sectional Final? Go online first
Oct. 24—PLATTSBURGH — Cell phone service in rural areas can be hit or miss.
Standing outside of an athletic complex at one of the local schools, it's far too often that someone is searching for service.
With the requirement of online ticket purchasing for sectional finals, hopefully people will not be waiting for a connection outside of Beekmantown, Plattsburgh High or Northeastern Clinton.
Before you head to a game, starting today in Plattsburgh with the Class B boys and girls soccer finals, make sure you go online to buy your ticket.
Friends and family of students on the participating teams will first need to head to https://gofan.co/app/school/NYSPHSAA7. There's also an app for your Android or Apple smartphone that you can get from the respective store.
You can also get there by visiting sec7.org and click on "Get Your Tickets Here" to be directed to the website.
It's recommended to bookmark the page on GoFan as any upcoming sporting event hosted by Section VII will be found there.
This system was implemented last year and it brought a lot of frustration as people struggled to get access at the gate. There were, and likely will be, people able to help get tickets at the game, but it just boils down to convenience.
It's much more convenient to purchase your ticket at home, rather than waiting for a purchase to go through at the gate.
We're living in a digital age where one can't simply walk up and purchase a ticket anymore. The entirety of NYSPHSAA uses GoFan for ticket purchasing.
If a game is hosted in another section, someone would need to search that section on GoFan to purchase tickets. When it boils down to state championships, NYSPHSAA will have their own link, typically posted on the championships page.
Once you've purchased a ticket one time, you'll be familiar with the process for every sport.
Simply find the sport, or game, that you're wanting to attend and click "Buy Tickets". This will take you to another page to select how many tickets you want, the price and location of the event.
Make sure to check any special notices. For example, a ticket for today's game at Plattsburgh will be good for both the boys and girls games. Fans of Saranac or NCCS may take the advantage as both schools play in both finals.
In fact for the sectional finals, Wednesday through Saturday, a ticket to each event covers both events on the specific day.
For example, if someone were to purchase a ticket to the Class A finals at NCCS, a ticket to watch the Hornets and Eagles in girls, it would allow one to stay to watch the Hornets and Nighthawks in boys.
While the convenience is there, someone will still need to visit GoFan directly, or sec7.org to get their tickets. It will save time and should take just a few minutes to process the order.
If nothing else, it will be much easier and less frustrating than waiting for service outside of the gate.
