Gogglebox stars Steph and Dom Parker are to explore the debate for medical marijuana use in the UK, saying that it could potentially change their son Max’s life.

The couple will make their case in a documentary show, airing soon on Channel 4, called Can Cannabis Save Our Son?

It will lay bare the struggle to help 18-year-old Max through both severe epilepsy and autism.

In the programme, the couple reveal that Max, who was diagnosed age four, can suffer more than 100 seizures in a day.

The severity of his autism also means that he has a mental age of six, and needs 24-hour care.

The show finds the couple allowing cameras into their home in the New Forest, and also as they travel to the US to look at therapies using prescribed cannabis oil.

They visit one family in San Francisco whose teenage son has had his epilepsy almost sent into remission by using the substance.

“I want to make this clear straightaway, this is not a scientific documentary, it is a personal film,” Steph told the Daily Mail.

“We just wanted to explore the issues, talk to people and collect anecdotal information. People say to us ‘Are you going to give your child cannabis?’ No, we are not! Medicinal cannabis is produced in laboratories and all the psychotics and hallucinogens, anything that some might regard as the fun stuff that gets you high, all that has been taken out.”

“Over the years, he has tried pretty much everything,” Dom added.

“I would just love to have a conversation with him.”

The film will air on Channel 4 on January 28.
