Goaltender Ilya Samsonov credited with first professional point originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Ilya Samsonov made his second conditioning stint for the Hershey Bears on Wednesday and seemed to be coming into form as the Bears won 2-1 behind 22 Samsonov saves on 23 shots.

With Samsonov nearing his return to the roster after an extended absence due to a positive COVID-19 test, it looks like he’ll rejoin the Capitals before back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday. And he’ll do so with his first career point under his belt.

Due to a stat correction from Wednesday’s win over the Binghamton Devils, the goaltender was credited with his first professional point in the Bears’ 2-1 win.

Samsonov, 23, played 26 games for the Capitals last season with a .913 save percentage. In two games in the NHL this season, he’s 1-0-1 with an .868 save percentage. And after two conditioning starts for the Bears, the Capitals will get some needed goaltending help.
