The "Good Morning Football" crew breaks down the most impressive parts of the Las Vegas Raiders' win over the New Orleans Saints. This game is streaming live on the Yahoo Sports mobile app, or on NFL Network
Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is thought to be in a vegetative state with little chance of ever fully recovering, according to leading neurosurgeon Erich Riederer. The seven-time F1 World Champion had been on holiday in the French Alps in 2013 when he was in a devastating skiing accident that left him with severe brain injuries. Almost seven years later, he has not been seen in public since the accident with few details released about his current state.
Monday night's first-ever NFL game in Las Vegas included the kind of gamble that never should be made in the vicinity of a football field. An ESPN camera cart inched too close to the action, and a pair of Raiders collided with it. Safety Johnathan Abram seemed to be knocked out after colliding with the base of the device.
Tiger Woods had a few of his buddies – Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Rose – over to the new course he designed in Missouri for a special exhibition on Tuesday. While all 18 holes of the course looked pretty incredible, the special 19th hole (which has been dubbed a “bonus” hole) stole the show at the end of the round. The four golfers competed at Payne's Valley Golf Course (Named in honor of Ozarks native Payne Stewart) at Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale.
Marc Stein of The New York Times: Keith Smith: The 76ers could trade Al Horford and Tobias Harris to reduce their glut of bigs. But Horford was already on the block (good luck convincing anyone to take his contract), and Harris is also expensive. For what it's worth, Harris could thrive as a small-ball power forward in D'Antoni's system, but Harris is often pigeonholed as a small forward on this roster.
Peyton Manning takes veiled cheap shot at Patriots during MNF broadcast originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston It's been four and a half years since Peyton Manning hung up the spikes and retired from the NFL, but he can still sling it. But instead of heaving deep balls to sprinting wide receivers, the former Colts and Broncos quarterback was busy hurling zingers during his appearance during ESPN's Megacast of the Raiders-Saints game on Monday Night Football -- and he saved his harshest burn for his old nemesis, the New England Patriots.
The Heat will have some concern going forward though, as Bam Adebayo tweaked his wrist in the fourth quarter and it was clearly bothering him — he was grimacing a lot and was just letting it hang by his side. Bam said after the game that he just twisted it and that he'll be fine, sporting a huge icepack on his wrist. Coach Erik Spoelstra didn't have an update and the Heat weren't exactly transparent either, so we're pretty much in the dark here.
Through two games in the 2020 NFL season, Saints quarterback Drew Brees looks a lot like a guy who's just about done playing quarterback at a plus level. In Monday night's 34-24 loss to the Raiders, Brees completed 26 of 38 passes for 312 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Pretty good stats on their face, especially since Brees was working without receiver Michael Thomas, who's out with an ankle injury.
When billionaire owner Steve Ballmer opened his cheque book to sign Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Los Angeles Clippers were immediately elevated into the championship picture. Leonard was fresh off guiding the Toronto Raptors to a first NBA title, while six-time All-Star George finally landed in a big city after starring in Indiana and Oklahoma City. The Clippers went all-in to build a super team to outshine LeBron James and iconic neighbours the Los Angeles Lakers, but time is already running out to win championships after sensationally capitulating against the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semi-finals at Walt Disney World Resort.
Tomase: Workman trade already a knockout for Bloom, Sox originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston Let's call this one right now: Chaim Bloom fleeced the Phillies. Normally, evaluating a trade deadline deal of veterans for prospects takes a couple of years, but the anguished cries of Phillies fans every time Brandon Workman takes the mound should be more than enough to declare a winner. On Tuesday, the juxtaposition was striking.
Arians gets blunt about Gronk's role in Bucs offense originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston Tom Brady targeted Rob Gronkowski about seven times per game over the tight end's nine seasons with the New England Patriots. Through two games in Tampa Bay, however, the Brady-Gronkowski connection has been non-existent. So, why has Gronkowski caught just two passes on four targets so far this season?
A rookie currently leads the LPGA in driving distance with a 287.462 average. Unlike Bryson DeChambeau, Bianca Pagdanganan didn't seek out extra yardage. Pagdanganan – who for the record isn't really a fan of protein shakes – consistently carried the ball 275 yards in college, but really doesn't keep track of how far she's hitting it now.
Gary Sanchez made two of his team's season-high four errors and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the sloppy Yankees 14-1 Wednesday night, dealing New York perhaps a fatal blow in its race for home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. That was not Yankee baseball at all,'' Yankees first baseman Luke Voit said. Everything was bad tonight.
Through two weeks, Jacksonville's Gardner Minshew is playing at a potentially Pro Bowl level and New Orleans' Drew Brees is off to a slow start by his lofty standards. Such is life entering Week 3 of the fantasy football season, where Minshew, who entered the fantasy draft season not ranked among the top 24 quarterbacks, is outplaying Brees, a longtime fantasy superstar. This week will go a long toward determining if trends such as Minshew emerging as a viable weekly play and Brees not putting up huge stats will hold true.
Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep were this year's Italian Open winners. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, total payouts were down 33.5% compared to the 2019 prize pool. Though the gender pay gap was smaller than in years past, the $12 difference between Djokovic's and Halep's final checks drew criticism from tennis fans.
As noted last week, the point of this column is to provide some ideas for trades to make, both through my recommendations and a look at the trade market for that player based on actual trades from Yahoo leagues. A recommendation to trade away or trade for is not a guarantee that the player will bust or breakout moving forward. Now that we've covered that, let's take a look at three running backs — one to trade for, trade away, and hold — following the injury rapture, aka Week 2 of the 2020 NFL season.
The Seattle Seahawks kept Bruce Irvin's promise. The Seahawks allowed two rushing touchdowns to quarterback Cam Newton on Sunday night in their instant classic matchup with the New England Patriots. After Newton's second score, in which the QB waltzed into the end zone on a designed run to the left, a mic'd up Irvin fired some trash talk at Newton that turned out to be very accurate.
Dwight Howard is thriving in his role as enforcer and Nikola Jokic antagonist for the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals — and he's talking a lot on the court to let everyone know it. Based on NBA.com matchup stats, Jokic is 3-of-7 shooting while guarded by Howard, with another 10 points at the free-throw line, which means he's doing better than JaVale McGee or Anthony Davis (and he's keeping Davis out of foul trouble). Dwight Howard has been a spark of energy for the Lakers in that role, but he almost got ejected in the first half of Game 3 because of his language, reports Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
NFL Power Rankings roundup: Here's where Patriots stand entering Week 3 originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The New England Patriots have played better than many people anticipated to begin the post-Tom Brady era. After beating the Miami Dolphins in Week 1, the Patriots nearly pulled off an impressive fourth quarter comeback on the road against a Super Bowl contender in the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. New England's offense looks pretty good with Cam Newton leading the way at quarterback.
Through two weeks of the NFL and fantasy football season, your top-scoring wide receiver is none other than Calvin Ridley, the supposed WR2 in Atlanta, with 55.8 half-PPR points — 16.1 more points than second-place receiver, Davante Adams. Week 3 Fantasy Rankings: QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | FLEX | DST | Kickers] Not bad for a guy selected, on average, in the fifth round of August fantasy drafts. Can he keep it going in Week 3?
