A glance at girls and boys basketball as their season winds down

Jan. 15—With winter weather postponing winter contests over the last week and more potential for cancellations due to extreme cold, we take a glance at where area basketball teams currently sit in the standings and what they are expecting over the final month of play.

Clinton

Starting with the Clinton River Kings and Queens, it has been a tough start for both sides as they've had trouble finding their stride in MAC play. The Queens have two wins, both in out of conference games as they sit at (2-11) overall. Here is how they will close out their season:

Fulton

The Fulton boys basketball team has been without star senior Baylen Damhoff for three weeks and have had some learning curves but have been getting the job done as they sit at (11-6) on the year.

Prince of Peace

The Prince of Peace boys basketball team has gotten off on the right foot, riding the hot hand of junior Hakeal Powell and the leadership of senior Jhikeith McGraw. The Irish currently sit at (6-4) and are looking to carry that momentum as the season nears its end.

The Central DeWitt Sabers girls team has been on fire this season, sitting near the top of the MAC with a (7-2) conference record and an (8-3) overall record. Their only three losses have come to top programs in the state in Maquoketa, Pleasant Valley and Davenport North.
