GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Pioneers outlast Valkyries
Sep. 1—LOUISVILLE — Class 3A No. 1 Providence outlasted host Louisville Sacred Heart, the No. 2 team in Kentucky, 25-23, 25-13, 13-25, 20-25, 15-13 Thursday night.
Nicole Stratford tallied a team-high 12 kills while Makenzie Wagner added 11 for the Pioneers while Reese Carver (23) and Addison Smith (22) combined for 45 assists. Stratford also topped the team in aces (three) while Camila Adams (19) and Lilly Tappel (11) combined for 30 digs. Abby Julius and Avery Drury recorded four total blocks apiece.
Providence (11-2) will host its annual Early Bird Tournament on Saturday.

DRAGONS DOWN PIRATES
CHARLESTOWN — Class 3A No. 5 Silver Creek rolled to a 25-20, 25-15, 25-14 win at Charlestown in a Mid-Southern Conference match Thursday evening.
Ellie Priddy (seven) and Addison Makun (six) combined for 13 kills to lead the Dragons' attack. Priddy and Shelbi Oxley dished out nine assists apiece while Priddy, Oxley, Aryn Heeke and Abby Larson had two service aces each.
Ava Kopf led the way defensively with 18 digs while Heeke had 14 and Priddy 10. Brooklynn Renn registered seven total blocks while Makun had five.
Reagan Abbott, Sophia Fuquay and Mia Long paced the Pirates with seven kills apiece while Emma Grace dished out 13 assists. Olivia O'Neil topped the team with nine digs.
Silver Creek (6-0, 4-0) will play in Providence's Early Bird Tournament on Saturday.

BEDFORD — Floyd Central bounced back from Wednesday's loss to Silver Creek with a 25-14, 25-10, 25-13 win at Bedford North Lawrence in a Hoosier Hills Conference match Thursday night.
Jenna Heidbreder had a team-high 16 kills for the Highlanders while Carly Fonda dished out 32 assists. Meanwhile Ella Davidson and Maddie Johnson had five aces apiece for Floyd, which finished with 15 as a team.
Davidson (11) and Johnson (eight) also combined for 19 digs.
The Highlanders (4-4) will face Crown Point at 9 a.m. Saturday at Avon.

ELIZABETH — Visiting Borden blanked South Central 25-13, 25-15, 25-14 in a Southern Athletic Conference match Thursday night.
McKenna Mullen tallied 12 kills to pace the Braves while Hannah Peine added seven. Those two also recorded a team-high five aces apiece while Mallory Thomas totaled four. Also for Borden, Reese Martel dished out 17 assists while Ava Martin and Aubrey Miller had 10 digs apiece.
"A win is a win," Braves coach D.J. Zipp said. "Serving was our strong point tonight. We had 15 aces as a team. We are exciting with our start to the season, but are ready to get to the meat of our schedule coming up."
The Braves (13-0, 3-0) will host Shawe Memorial on Tuesday night.

NEW ALBANY — Class A No. 6 Trinity Lutheran swept host Christian Academy 25-14, 25-12, 25-14 Thursday night.
Karlyn Denny led the Warriors with five kills while she, Kristen Abbott and Avery Kerr had six digs apiece.
"(Thursday) night was a good night for our back row," CAI coach Chrissy Millen said. "With all the pressure on them, and struggling off and on all season, our serve-receive looked much improved. Juniors Kristen Abbott, Anna Miles and Leah Stevens have been working hard at practice to make the little adjustments necessary to shore up our back row and it showed."
The Warriors (5-7) will visit Austin on Tuesday night.
