Girls hockey roundup: Alexandria blanks Willmar to grab CLC lead

Jan. 25—ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria strengthened its spot atop the Central Lakes Conference girls hockey standings with a shutout on Thursday.

Alexandria beat Willmar 4-0 at the Runestone Community Center. The victory puts Alex at 9-2-0 in the CLC and 12-10-0 overall.

Willmar, ranked 13th in the state in Class A according to Let's Play Hockey, is 5-5-0 in the CLC and 15-6-0 overall.

Julia Doherty, Skylar Thorson, Maya Wagner and Lauren Hornstein all scored goals for Alex. Goaltender Hunter Sellnow made 15 saves for the win. She's 5-2-0 this season with a 1.28 goals against average and three shutouts.

Erin Eilers made 41 saves for a .911 save percentage for Willmar. Eilers is 15-6-0 with a 1.42 goals against average and a .936 save percentage this season.

Willmar plays seventh-ranked (Class A) Mound-Westonka/Southwest Christian at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Thaler Hockey Arena in Mound.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato put up 81 shots on goal and held Prairie Centre to 14 shots in a non-conference win at the Sauk Centre Civic Arena.

Litchfield/D-C is ranked 20th in the state in Class A, according to Let's Play Hockey.

Gabby Robertson had two goals and an assist for the Dragons. Camryn Iverson also had a pair of goals in the victory.

Janelle Quast got her third shutout of the season with 14 saves.

Litchfield/D-C plays Hutchinson at noon Saturday at the Litchfield Civic Arena.
