GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Braves blitz Lions

Jan. 2—BORDEN — Class A No. 3 Borden built a 27-10 halftime lead and cruised to a 46-22 victory over visiting Salem on Tuesday night.

The Braves, who were coming off a runner-up finish in last week's Donna Cheatham Holiday Classic, led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Lions 12-3 in the second to take that 17-point lead into the locker room. Borden then won the third period 11-6 and the fourth 8-6.

"Our pressure sped them up and allowed us to create some turnovers," Braves head coach Matt Vick said. "We moved the ball well offensively versus their zone and got some quality shots."

Sophomore standout Ava Wheeler tallied a team-high 13 points while Riley Rarick added 12, A.J. Mallad 10 and Emma Hart eight for Borden.

The Braves (14-2) will next visit Paoli at noon Saturday.
