Girls basketball: NLS falls to Rochester Lourdes in 5th-place game

Mar. 15—ST. PAUL — The New London-Spicer girls basketball team closed its 2024 state tournament appearance with a 45-38 loss to Rochester Lourdes on Friday in the Class AA consolation championship.

The Wildcats trailed at 25-22 and again struggled shooting at the Gangelhoff Center. NLS shot 30.8% from the field, making 16 of 52 of field goal attempts. They shot 22.2% from 3-point range, making 2 of 9 tries.

They also played without standout junior guard Dakota Rich, who was injured in Thursday's consolation semifinal victory over Perham.

Ava Carlson and Delaney Hanson led the Wildcats on Friday. Carlson had 16 points and eight rebounds. Hanson contributed 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Piper Barney contributed 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists for NLS, which finishes the season with a 29-4 record.

Rochester Lourdes (23-10)was led by Lauren Hust, who had 13 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Aaliyah Williams contributed 12 points and Liliana Davick added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.
