Jan. 19—MILAN — On the road at Milan, the Lady Chargers picked up win No. 14 on the season, knocking off the Lady Indians 50-36.
With the win, North Decatur improves to 14-6. Milan drops to 4-16.
Despite playing without their leading scorer, the Lady Chargers grabbed the first quarter lead and stretched the lead to 17 points after three quarters before closing out the 14-point victory.
Milan's Anna Herzog opened the scoring in the first quarter. North answered with a bucket by Ella Kunz and free throw from Sydney Rohls. Another Herzog bucket and 3-pointer from Emma Voss gave the Lady Indians a 7-3 lead. Jo Whitaker scored the next five points for North to give the Lady Chargers the lead for good.
Kelsey Haley drained a 3-pointer to extend the North lead to 11-7. Ally Whitaker's bucket extended the lead to six. After another Voss 3-pointer for Milan, Kinker scored the final three points of the quarter as North led 16-10.
Milan's Alex Getz opened the scoring in the second quarter. North scored the next seven points. Kinker hit a pair from the charity stripe followed by a 3-pointer from Jo Whitaker. Carmen Thackery then found Rohls for the easy bucket to give North a 23-12 lead. Milan cut the deficit to 25-19 on a Kaiya Rinear free throw.
Thackery answered with back-to-back 3-pointers for North before Rinear's bucket for Milan closed the first half with the Lady Chargers leading 31-21.
Rohls scored for North to open the third quarter. Haley then found Clare Kinker on the break to push the lead to 14 points. A Rinear bucket for Milan stopped the North charge, but Kunz scored four straight in the paint to make it 39-23.
After Voss hit another 3-pointer for the Lady Indians, North closed the third quarter on a 6-2 run. Rohls bucket off the Ally Whitaker assist gave North a 45-28 heading to the fourth quarter.
North only scored five points in the final quarter, all from the free throw line. Kunz hit 3-of-4 and Rohls hit 2-of-2 to help North close out the 50-36 victory.
For the Lady Chargers, Kunz and Rohls shared top scoring honors with 11 points each. Jo Whitaker was also in double figures with 10 points.
Kinker finished with seven points. Thackery hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points. Haley added three points and Ally Whitaker finished with two points.
Voss led Milan with 17 points.
The Lady Chargers close out the regular season hosting MHC foe Hauser Tuesday and traveling to Edinburgh Jan. 25.
Rushville at Batesville
BATESVILLE — The Lady Bulldogs hosted Rushville in EIAC action Thursday. Batesville started off hot offensively, jumping out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs led at every break en route to the 54-36 victory.
Batesville moves to 13-8 on the season and 4-1 in the EIAC. Rushville drops to 7-14 overall and 2-4 in the EIAC.
The Lady Lions closed the gap to just a bucket early in the second quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled away to a 25-19 lead at the half. In the third, Batesville outscored Rushville 17-12 for a 42-31 lead heading to the fourth quarter. A 12-5 fourth quarter by Batesville sealed the win.
Rushville was led by Leonie Boyer with 15 points. Carly Senour added eight points followed by Trisha Morgan four, Kiley Parsley four, Kylee Herbert three, Gracie Buzzard one and Makenna Ripberger one.
