Girls basketball: Greensburg clinches EIAC title with win over BHS

Jan. 22—GREENSBURG — EIAC rivals Batesville and Greensburg met Saturday on the Lady Pirates' home court. Greensburg clinched the EIAC championship with a 59-46 victory.

With the win, the Lady Pirates improve to 16-4 on the season and stay at the top of the EIAC with a 6-0 record. All the other teams have at least two losses in the conference. Greensburg's final conference game is with Lawrenceburg Jan. 25. The Lady Bulldogs drop to 13-9 overall and 5-2 in the EIAC.

The Lady Pirates were led by Leah West and Claire Larrison, who combined to score 42 of the Pirates' 59 points. West led all scorers with 23 points. Larrison hit nine of her 11 shots from the floor to score 19 points. The Pirates held the Bulldogs to 34 percent shooting in the game.

Greensburg travels to New Palestine Tuesday night for a JV/Varsity doubleheader tipping at 6 p.m.

South Decatur

In a battle of Cougars, the Lady Cougars of South Decatur held off the Lady Cougars of Trinity Lutheran 50-45 Saturday.

Kiley Best led the way for South with 26 points. Best also had two rebounds and one assist. Makayla Somers also scored in double figures with 11 points to go with seven rebounds. Molly Eden had a huge day for the Lady Cougars, scoring eight points, grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds and dishing out two assists.

Brayley Sundal tallied three points, four rebounds and a team-high five assists. Paige McQueen had two points, three rebounds and two assists. Taylor Somers grabbed two rebounds. Makayla Puckett added one rebound and one assist.

South improves to 13-9 heading to the final regular season game at Batesville Tuesday.


CONNERSVILLE — Rushville traveled to Connersville Saturday and fell to the Lady Spartans 47-37. Connersville improves to 12-9 overall and 3-3 in the EIAC. Rushville drops to 7-15 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

Leonie Boyer led the Lady Lions with 14 points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist. Carly Senour tallied 10 points, two steals and two assists. Kylee Herbert added six points, two rebounds, one steal and four assists.

Kiley Parsley finished with four points and one assist. Gracie Buzzard had three points, four rebounds and one steal. Olivia Smith had seven rebounds and one block. Makenna Ripberger had one block. Trisha Morgan added two rebounds and two assists.

Sectional draw

The IHSAA announced the tournament draw for the girls basketball tournament beginning with the sectional first rounds Jan. 30.

Lawrenceburg hosts Sectional 29 in Class 3A. In the opening game, South Dearborn faces Batesville. In Game 2, Greensburg takes on Franklin County. In Game 3, Rushville faces the host squad Lawrenceburg. Connersville drew the bye and will face the winner of South Dearborn and Batesville in Game 4.

In Class 2A, North Decatur is the host school. In the opening game, Hauser faces Switzerland County. In the first semifinal, Milan takes on the host Lady Chargers. In the other semifinal, South Ripley plays the winner of Hauser and Switzerland County.

In Class A, Southwestern (Shelby) is the host. The opening game pits South Decatur and Edinburgh. In Game 2, the host Lady Spartans take on Oldenburg Academy. Game 3 pits Waldron against Morristown. Jac-Cen-Del drew the bye and will face the winner of South Decatur and Edinburgh.
