Girls basketball: EBF's Shafer, Eastlick earn All-State honors

Mar. 5—DES MOINES — Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont teammates Molly Shafer and Ava Eastlick each earned a pair of all-state honors. After guiding the Rockets back to the Iowa Girls High School State Basketball Tournament for the second straight year, Shafer and Eastlick were both all-state selections by the Iowa Print Sports Writers and the Iowa Girls Coaches Associations.

Shafer earned consensus first-team all-state honors in Class 2A after leading EBF in scoring averaging 18.9 points a game while producing the best shooting percentage (62.3 percent) in the South Central Conference. Shafer also led the Rockets on the defensive end of the court, averaging 2.2 blocks a contest.

Eastlick was a second-team all-state selection by the IPSWA and a third-team selection by the IGCA. Like Shafer, Eastlick scored her 1,000th career point this past season while averaging 16.3 points a game in points per game, finishing as the SCC's top 3-point shooter making an average of 2.9 makes a game.

Eastlick set a program record this season sinking nine 3-pointers in one game while scoring 35 points, one short of Bobbi Bayer's single-game program record, in a 70-21 win over Albia that helped the Rockets complete a perfect run to a third consecutive conference championship. EBF finished the season with a record of 23-2, falling 52-48 in the Class 2A state basketball tournament quarterfinals to Sioux Central.
