Calgary Flames defenceman Mark Giordano, Nashville Predators forward Wayne Simmonds and Carolina Hurricanes forward Justin Williams have been named finalists for the Mark Messier Leadership Award, the league announced Wednesday.

Giordano is also nominated for the Norris Trophy and is considered by many to be the front-runner to capture the award given to the league’s best defenceman. The Flames’ captain submitted a career-best season, notching 17 goals and 74 points in 78 games.

Simmonds was acquired by the Predators in a Feb. 25 trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, posting a goal and three points in 17 games with his new club. Prior to being traded, Simmonds notched 16 goals and 11 assists with the Flyers.

Williams posted his most productive season since the 2011-12 campaign, scoring 23 goals and 53 points in 82 games. The three-time Stanley Cup winner also won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2014.

The winner will be announced at the 2019 NHL Awards in Las Vegas on June 19.
