Giants trade Peralta to Yanks for Tauchman after Yaz injury originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Giants have gone a bit too heavy on left-handed relievers all season and felt they had a need for more outfield depth. They solved both problems with one move Tuesday afternoon.

San Franciscso traded Wandy Peralta to the New York Yankees, getting veteran outfielder Mike Tauchman in return. The 30-year-old has just 14 at-bats this season, picking up two singles and a double. Tauchman hit 13 homers in 2019 and adds a needed outfielder at a time when the big league roster is banged up.

Starting right fielder Mike Yastrzemski strained his oblique on Sunday and is expected to miss five or six days, but manager Gabe Kapler said the trade was unrelated. Regardless, the Giants could use the depth even when Yastrzemski returns. Tauchman joins LaMonte Wade Jr. and Steven Duggar as potential reserve options, and he can play center, like the other two.

Peralta got off to a good start and even picked up a couple of saves in a bullpen lacking trusted options, but overall he has given up five earned runs on 11 hits in 8 1/3 innings.

The Giants opened the year with five left-handed relievers in the bullpen. They still have closer Jake McGee, Jose Alvarez and Caleb Baragar on the active roster, with Jarlin Garcia on the IL.
