Giants sticking with Nick Gates at center as date with Aaron Donald looms

The New York Giants (0-3) face the Los Angeles Rams (2-1) this Sunday on the road in a matchup where the Giants will be hard-pressed to stop the NFLs’ third most powerful offense.

The biggest challenge, however, could actually come when the Giants have the football. Big Blue has Nick Gates at center going up against the most productive and perhaps talented defensive lineman in the league the last few years in Aaron Donald.

Gates has been struggling to learn the position, which he never played until this summer in camp, and is vulnerable to begin with. Donald eats the most experienced centers alive and this should be concerning the Giants.

It is, but head coach Joe Judge isn’t giving in. He told reporters on Wednesday that Gates would not be replaced and that his presence at center is not an experiment.

According to his Giants’ bio, Gates’ birthday isn’t until November 27, but let’s not let facts get in the way. It doesn’t matter what day it is, trying to block Donald is a monumental task and the Giants could be in for another inept weekend on offense.
