The New York Giants have placed cornerback Darnay Holmes on injured reserve. This comes after Holmes was hospitalized with a rib injury during a Week 12 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Following a key first half pick, Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, who weighs in excess of 350 pounds, came down squarely on Holmes’ chest. It was immediately apparent Holmes was hurt.

Although Holmes attempted to stay in the game, he was quickly brought to the hospital due to breathing difficulty. He will miss a minimum of three games before becoming eligible to return.

Meanwhile, the Giants activated safety and defensive captain, Logan Ryan, off of the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

That move was anticipated after Ryan had publicly announced his return a day prior.

In Ryan’s absence, Julian Love stepped in and played all 145 defensive snaps. He held his own and made some key plays, including a fumble recovery late in Sunday’s victory over Philly.

Finally, with quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) ailing, the Giants also signed quarterback Jake Fromm to their 53-man roster from the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.

Fromm, a star quarterback at Georgia, was selected by the Bills in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL draft. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Assuming Jones misses time, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Fromm will serve as the backup to veteran Mike Glennon.

With the transactions, the Giants are back at maximum roster capacity (53).
