Wade reflects on sharing 'special' Willie Mac Award with parents originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

LaMonte Wade Jr. has very quickly become a beloved member of the Giants organization.

In his first season with San Francisco in 2021, the young outfielder took home the prestigious Willie Mac Award at the end of the regular season for best exemplifying the spirit and leadership shown by the late Willie McCovey. Joining an impressive list of current and former Giants, Wade received the cherry on top of his breakout campaign.

Wade joined KNBR 680's "Murph & Mac" on Friday morning prior to the Giants' matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals, where he reflected on winning the award and the moment he shared with his parents in the offseason.

"I feel like just being able to bring the award back home to mom and dad, we sat there and talked about it and about the season," Wade said. "That's probably the first time we reflected on the whole season ... the Willie Mac Award meant so much to me and my family. This just shows what your teammates and coaching staff and others think about you, it's definitely overwhelming and makes you feel pretty good about the way that you carry yourself and handle yourself amongst your peers and everything like that.

"Also, the ceremony and seeing the past winners, we talked about that a lot as well. It's definitely a special moment and something I will never forget. Definitely look forward to this year and seeing who gets it this year."

Wade joined a list of previous winners that included teammates Mike Yastrzemski, Brandon Crawford and Buster Posey, as well as some Giants legends such as Mike Krukow, Joe Morgan, Dave Dravecky, J.T. Snow, Jeff Kent, Matt Cain, Hunter Pence and Madison Bumgarner.

The entire 2021 season was one that Wade will never forget. Throw in one of the most prestigious awards in Giants franchise history and it becomes even more special.
