The Giants could be without two key pieces this Sunday as they look for their first win of the season against the Washington Football Team, with Darius Slayton and Dexter Lawrence both being listed as questionable to play.
Slayton is dealing with a foot injury and Lawrence has an ankle injury. Both were limited at practice all week, but in Slayton's situation, head coach Joe Judge expects him to be ready to play.
"I’m expecting Darius to play. If the trainers tell me otherwise, they tell me otherwise," Judge said Friday morning before practice.
If Slayton does in fact miss Sunday's game, the Giants would be without three of their offensive weapons, with Saquon Barkley out for the year and Sterling Shepard not appearing in a game since Week 2.
Judge gave an update on Shepard, seemingly saying the receiver looks to be trending in the right direction to return soon, just not this Sunday.
"He’s been making progress every day with the trainers," Judge said. "I’ve just seen he’s been working tirelessly. He’s made a lot of progress in terms of from where he was when he got hurt in Chicago to physically where he is now right there. I just saw him in the weight room two seconds ago. He’s in good spirits. He’s obviously anxious to get back out on the grass."
"We want to see him back out there as soon as possible. But we just need to make sure we make the right decisions for him long-term medically."
