Ruf luck: Giants take lead on homer off Mateo's glove originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

We've all had our rough moments at the ballpark. San Diego Padres utility man Jorge Mateo had a moment to forget Wednesday when Giants left fielder Darin Ruf stepped to the plate.

Ruf hammered a fastball to deep center field when Mateo looked to rob to the deep blast. Instead of a robbery, though, Mateo gave the Giants a huge assist as the ball bounced off his glove and over the fence.

The two-run homer gave the Giants an early 2-0 lead over Blake Snell and the Padres.

Ruf now has two homers on the year. His long ball in the second inning went 402 feet and was hit 100.4 mph off the bat.

The Giants are looking to win their second straight game against the Padres to take the three-game series in San Diego.
