New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple attended Thursday’s practice session but did not participate.

Apple was kicked in the ankle by one of the wide receivers during Tuesday’s practice. Head coach Ben McAdoo said the second-year player “felt his ankle a little bit”. The injury is not believed to be serious but Apple could miss Monday’s night preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan reported that Apple is not the only Giant who could miss the Browns game.

Wide receivers Dwayne Harris (upper body), Darius Powe (hamstring), and Kevin Snead (lower leg) sat out Tuesday’s practice. Linebacker Mark Herzlich (stinger) also didn’t practice Tuesday.

Powe rode a stationary bike early in Thursday’s practice while Harris worked with a trainer. They may return to the field before Monday night’s game.

Herzlich is another matter altogether. He spent Thursday receiving treatment inside the training room. Herzlich was on the practice field Sunday but wore a yellow jersey designating him as a non-contact player. He hasn’t returned to the practice field since.

“He’s progressing,” McAdoo said. “He is not where we want him to be yet to put him back on the field, but he is working through it.”

All the news on the Giants’ injury front wasn’t all doom and gloom.

Running back Shaun Draughn (ankle) worked out for the first time since being placed on the team’s physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Linebacker J.T. Thomas (knee), who made headlines earlier in the day after taking a serious pay cut, worked out in individual drills.

Linebacker Devon Kennard (soreness) and offensive lineman Adam Gettis (eye) returned to the practice field. Kennard was a limited participant in the two previous practices while Gettis sat out Tuesday’s session.
