Georgia coach Kirby Smart rips into quarterback Stetson Bennett at end of first half of Orange Bowl

Apparently a 24-point halftime lead in a national semifinal was not enough for Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart.

The Bulldogs built a 27-3 lead over Michigan in the Orange Bowl, but ESPN cameras caught Smart yelling at his quarterback, Stetson Bennett, as the teams departed the field at the end of the first half.

With a minute left in the second quarter, Georgia got the ball back after Derion Kendrick picked off Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara. After three rush attempts netted the Bulldogs a first down at midfield with a second left, Bennett had an incomplete pass to end the half.

Despite amassing a big halftime lead, Smart appeared to not approve of Bennett's conservative play execution and the time taken between snaps. Especially considering that Georgia still had a timeout remaining. (It should be noted Smart could have taken a timeout as the head coach.)

It was the Bulldogs' only possession in the first half in which they did not score.

"We want to go score there. Be aggressive. Try to get a field goal. Try to score like we’ve done the whole time," Smart told ESPN's Holly Rowe at halftime. "We didn’t manage the clock real well at the end."

Bennett's stat line through 30 minutes was an impressive 16-of-22 passing for 234 yards and two touchdowns. Bennett finished the game with 310 yards passing and three touchdowns as Georgia defeated Michigan, 34-11, and advanced to the College Football Playoff championship game to face SEC rival Alabama.
