Georgetown's McClung and Akinjo trade buzzer-beaters in 2OT win over Providence

Zion Williamson may be the most exciting college basketball player in the nation, but Mac McClung isn’t all that far behind him.

If you haven’t heard about the freshman guard at Georgetown, you’re missing a YouTube sensation in the making. He can dunk like gravity is an option, hits 3-pointers with ease and makes back-breaking plays like this bit of magic with time expiring against Providence on Saturday:

McClung had three defenders closing in on him when he let that shot go and a fourth wasn’t too far away. It didn’t matter. The freshman hung in the air and fired off the game-tying 3 at the buzzer like it was nothing.

Forget about the Big East being put on alert, that’s the type of ice-cold play that should scare any team that draws Georgetown come March. McClung has yet to score fewer than 10 points in a game since late November and put up 38 against Little Rock just before Christmas. And his buzzer-beater would’ve been the shot of the game on Saturday if not for his backcourt partner, James Akinjo, who knocked down a long 3 of his own to send the game into double-overtime.

After two extra frames, the Hoyas eventually put Providence away, 96-90. McClung finished 7-for-13 from the field with 16 points and four rebounds with Akinjo adding an impressive 20 points, nine assists and four rebounds.
