George H.W. Bush is more focused on the Rockets than his health right now
Given that George H.W. Bush shouted out his favorite NBA team in a statement announcing he had been transitioned out of Houston Methodist Hospital’s intensive care unit, it’s probably fair to say the former president is in good spirits after being diagnosed with a blood infection earlier this week.
Bush was admitted to the ICU on Sunday following a string of recent hospitalizations, raising concern about his health just one day after the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush, his wife of 73 years. Encouraging news about the 41st president’s health came Wednesday — with a surprise NBA twist:

“President George H. W. Bush has been moved from the intensive care unit at Houston Methodist Hospital to a regular patient room, and is expected to continue his recovery there for several more days. He is alert and talking with hospital staff, family and friends, and his doctors are very pleased with his progress.
“President Bush naturally thanks everyone for their prayers and good wishes. He also wants to assure everyone that, as good as he feels now, he is more focused on the Houston Rockets closing out their playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves than anything that landed him in the hospital.”
Anybody who’s more concerned with Houston advancing right now than a hospitalization can’t be that worried about their health, considering the top-seeded Rockets lead their first-round series 3-1 with the first of three chances to eliminate the eighth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Wednesday night,
Here’s hoping Bush, a Massachusetts native who adopted the Houston area as home after serving in World War II and graduating from Yale University, finds a comfortable spot to watch Game 5. Just no more 50-point quarters, please, because I’m not sure too much excitement is what the doctor ordered.
