GC Softball: Kerens hammers 5A Tyler

Mar. 1—KERENS — Sure, Kerens is a small Class 2A school, but that has little to do with the talent Jayson Engel's softball team puts on the diamond.

The Kerens girls hammered 5A (that's right, 5A) Tyler 15-1 in a three-inning Mercy Rule game Tuesday.

The LadyCats belted out 15 hits, stole a dozen bases and ran the bases all afternoon to improve to 12-4 for the season.

Ella Engel went the distance, allowing just one hit and striking out five of the nine batters she faced to pick up the easy win on the mound and went 1-for-1 at the plate.

Brooke Sikes went 1-for-2 with a triple, scored twice and drove in two runs, Kayla Gonzales hit a double, scored three runs and drove in a run and Sarah Massey doubled, stole two bases, scored and drove in two runs to lead the way for Kerens.

Rylee Spivey scored four times, Jaden Brumitt went 2-for-2 and scored, Olivia Holt went 1-for-1 and scored, Kynzee Elmore singled, stole two bases, scored and drove in a run and Blair Blue stole three bases and scored twice.
