GC Football Playoffs: Kerens falls to powerhouse Marlin
Nov. 10—HEWITT — After putting together a big season and winning clutch games down the stretch to reach the playoffs, the Kerens Bobcats saw their season end Thursday night at Hewitt Midway's Panther Stadium with a 36-7 loss to state-ranked Marlin in the Class 2A DI Bi-District round of the playoffs.
Marlin's defense swarmed Kerens all night, holding the Bobcats to a total of 43 total yards while amassing 360 yards on the ground to advance to the Area Round.
Kerens had a terrific season from quarterback Lane Lynch, who led the Golden Circle in passing and broke two school single season records for passing yards,(2,240) and touchdowns (29). Wide receiver Mykel Lattimore set a single season-record for touchdown receptions, scoring 14 TDs.
Muziq Gunnell led Kerens, rushing for 55 yards on eight carries, and scored Kerens' only touchdown in the first quarter on a 2-yard run. Adrian Solis nailed the PAT kick to give the Bobcats a 7-6 lead. But Marlin used its speed and size to take over the game.
Kerens finishes the season with a 6-5 record. Marlin, which moved down from Class 3A to 2A a few years ago, moves on with a 9-2 mark.
